Due to unprecedented demand, we are now FULLY BOOKED for all workshops at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery until the end of the academic year. There are very few slots left for any independent visits to Bristol Museum & Art Gallery and M Shed. Please contact us for any late availability  – we’re sorry that we can’t guarantee we will be able to book you in to visit.

We are now taking bookings for Terms 1 & 2 (September to December 2022).

We will send instructions for your visit and a COVID-19 Risk Assessment with your booking confirmation – please read all of this carefully and make sure everyone in your group is aware of the safety information.

Group visits

Contact us to book your visit – simply fill in our enquiry form below. All groups of 10 or more need to book a visit to our museums in advance through the Learning team, so contact us for further information about making your booking.This applies to both independent visits and paid or facilitated sessions. Do remember to bring a copy of your booking confirmation with you when you visit.

*(please note that there is a booking fee of £35 per class for schools with pupils under 16 years of age intending to visit either the Grayson’s Art Club or Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibitions. This booking fee guarantees a specific date and time for your visit, and includes all admission charges. Normal admission fees apply to groups with adults and students aged 16+).

Adult helpers

Please bring at least one adult for every six Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils or one adult for every 15 Key Stage 3 pupils. Pupils should be supervised at all times throughout your visit including visits to the toilet.


There is a level entrance at both the front and back of M Shed and three wheelchair accessible lifts to all floors.

There are accessible toilets on all floors (some with right hand and some with left hand transfer) and an adult changing bed with a hoist.

There is a Loop system at Reception. You can find out more about accessibility in our Facilities section.

Eating at the museum

The only space in the museum where groups can eat and drink is in our lunch room. There’s room for one group of up to 40 children and adults at a time. Free use is included if you have booked a museum-led session on your visit. If you’re making an independent visit, contact us to book this space (subject to availability) for only £1 per pupil.

On arrival

Our Visitor Services staff will show you where you can leave coats and bags. If you’ve booked one of our sessions, a Museum Educator will meet you.

You are welcome to take photographs. We’d love you to share pictures of your school trip with us on social media.
