A reference to “Henry Morgan” in a document held at Bristol Archives, ‘Apprentices – Registers of Servants to Foreign Plantations, 1654-1679’. This final entry on page 31 may refer to the privateer Henry Morgan, later Sir Henry Morgan and lieutenant governor of Jamaica. The entry reads: “9th February 1656 Henry Morgan of Abergavenny in the county of Monmouth, labourer, bound to Timothy Townsend of Bristol, cutler, for 3 years to serve in Barbados”.
