The Secret Life of Colour

Andy Warhol, Bridget Riley and Hokusai are creating a big splash of colour at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery this Autumn.

The Secret Life of Colour is a major new exhibition which brings together art, natural history and science to examine how colour influences our emotions, cultures and understanding of the world.

From Pop Art to Pointillism, this exhibition will showcase work from global blockbuster artists such as Andy Warhol, Wassily Kandinsky, Georges Seurat, Bridget Riley, Peter Blake and Katsushika Hokusai.

Alongside these famous masterpieces, the exhibition will display a range of colourful treasures including Delftware ceramics, seabird eggs, carnival costumes, historic poison bottles, stained glass and rare colourful rocks and minerals, including native copper from The Lizard, Cornwall.

Through this rich mix of artwork, specimens and cultural artefacts, The Secret Life of Colour will reveal colour as more than decoration.

This touring exhibition was jointly created by Sheffield Museums Trust, Tullie museum, Hampshire Cultural Trust, Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery, and Bristol Museums.
