Home Educator activity: Brass rubbing and medieval handling
Are you a Home Educator and fascinated by the Medieval period?
Come and spend an afternoon with us making rubbings of our replica church brasses, and handling real and replica medieval artefacts. Specialist wax crayons, sketching pencils and paper will be provided.
Suitable for Home Educated young people 12-16 years. If you are accompanying your child and would like to join in and do your own brass rubbings, please book an adult ticket.
Due to the very limited capacity for this workshop, we regret that siblings and additional adults are unable to attend.
What is brass rubbing?
Once a popular hobby, it involved reproducing brass commemorative plaques found in churches using large sheets of paper and wax crayons. They are usually set into the floor but can also be seen in the walls. They generally date from the 13th to 16th centuries.
