Can you spot a metamorphic from a sedimentary rock? Young geologists can investigate rocks and fossils in this hands-on workshop. Take part in fun geology activities to discover more about the rock cycle, volcanoes and plate tectonics.
Children will:
- Discover how rocks are made from minerals
- Handle and investigate rocks, minerals and fossils
- Learn about and identify features of 3 different types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic
- Discover how rocks are changed during the rock cycle, including by volcanoes and plate tectonics
- Learn scientific terms weathering, erosion, composition, compression, intrusive and extrusive
- Take home experiments investigating soils
- Explore the geology gallery using a museum self-guided activity
Suitable for: Years 3-6
Group size: Up to 35 pupils per class. If you book more than one workshop on the same day you will receive a 10% reduction on the cost of all the workshops.
Duration: 60 minutes
