Workshop: Mary Anning

Mary Anning was just 14 years old when she discovered the fossil of a marine reptile, Temnodontosaurus, in 1813.

Children will:

• get up close to a Temnodontosaurus skull and discover how it lived – and how it may have died
• handle the small fossils of creatures which lived around the same time
• discover how Mary Anning found fossils, and how we do it today, by handling a selection of fossil hunting tools 
• explore our fossil and dinosaur galleries using our Dinosaur Explorer bags (containing magnifiers, binoculars and colour paddles) and a fun trail 

In this workshop your class will spend 30 minutes with a member of our Learning team, and 30 minutes on a school-led exploration of the galleries with a specially designed discovery kit.

Group size: Up to 35 pupils – you can book more than one session

Duration: 60 minutes
