Kings Weston Roman Villa re-opens ready for some summer fun
Posted on by Kate Iles.
Last year, a car crashed into Kings Weston Roman Villa. Bristol Museums have been working with multiple agencies, including Historic England and Cliveden Conservation, to repair the damage.
Fixing a Roman villa is a specialist job involving archaeologists, conservators and a skilled team of craftspeople. It has taken weeks of work but the wooden building is repaired, the fence replaced, the crash debris cleared and the mosaics mopped. We’ve even weeded the walls!
This means that Kings Weston Roman Villa is ready to re-open and we can welcome everyone back.
To celebrate, we have an exciting programme of events including monthly sessions on Saturdays, Tuesday open afternoons and fun-packed Festival of Archaeology summer holiday activities. A regular programme of school visits and group tours will also run throughout the summer.
So why not visit the villa and discover Bristol’s best archaeological site. Visitors can explore the remains of the villa walls, mosaic floors, a bath suite and underfloor heating. There’s plenty of family fun too with a trail, dressing up and Roman inspired craft activities.
