KS2 Workshop: Talking Pictures – Constable in Bristol

Join us to investigate pictures and learn how to talk confidently about art. Visit National Treasures: Constable in Bristol “Truth to Nature” and our art galleries to develop spoken language skills when exploring great artworks. Pupils will become the ‘art expert’. Your school pupils will have the chance to experience a British masterpiece on display in Bristol. This is a rare opportunity to see a classic piece of art on loan from the National Gallery, London.

Children will:

  • Visit Constable in Bristol: Truth to Nature exhibition to see the iconic The Hay Wain
  • Discuss picture composition and techniques
  • Ask relevant questions to extend their understanding and knowledge
  • Discover the stories behind artworks
  • Investigate artists’ tools and materials
  • Compare and contrast art from different time periods
  • Learn specialist art vocabulary
  • Prepare and perform a group presentation

Suitable for: Year 3 – 6

Duration: 90 minutes

Group size: Up to 35 pupils in a workshop. If you book more than one workshop on the same day you will receive a 10% reduction on the cost of all the workshops.

Self-guided pencil sketching around the museum is encouraged after your workshop. Look out for our sketching activity station.
