From the archives: NHS 70 medical care in Bristol

As part of Bristol’s celebration of the NHS turning 70 years old, Bristol Archives is delving into local memories of the health service’s history.

The small display features documents and images exploring the early development of medical care in the city to the creation of the new National Health Service in the 1940s.

It gives a glimpse at life before the service and after it was created. Some achievements including widespread vaccinations against polio in the UK in the 1950s are documented and celebrated as part of the display.

All material has been selected by Bristol Archives.
