Spooky Week at The Red Lodge Museum

Step into history this Halloween at The Red Lodge for a week of stories and exploration!

This enchanting event will immerse you in the rich history of one of Bristol’s most intriguing historical houses, where the past comes alive.

Peep into our tiny world spooky doors and spot the ghosts and ghouls that live behind them, can you find them all? What Spooky stories do they tell? Let your creativity flow and create your own story or poem inspired by our spooky creatures to take home with you.

As you wander through the dimly lit halls, you’ll encounter former residents who will guide you on a journey through time, sharing tales of the lives and the history of the house.

You can find out all about:

• Sir John Young, An Elizabethan gentleman, the first owner of the Red Lodge and host to Queen Elizabeth I
• Annie Woolham, a young Victorian girl and early resident of the Red Lodge Reform School
• Mary Henley, a Georgian lady who modernised the Red Lodge and turned it into a home

What’s on:

• Join our volunteers for some favourite spooky stories during the year of reading
• Join in with a creative activity; create a Gods Eye to take home and ward off any unfriendly spirits, make a spooky paper pal, or make spooky decorations to take home with you
• Let our arty volunteers decorate you with spooky face and body painting
• Dress up in our historical costume or come in your own, don’t forget to share your selfies with us!
• Enjoy a drink and a tasty treat in our Tudor Knot garden
• Come dressed in your favourite costumes, ready to explore, learn, and make memories in the most atmospheric house in Bristol
