Home Educator workshop: Bristol at war – the Home Front
Join us for an immersive, activity-packed workshop looking at everyday life on the Home Front during World War Two.
Investigate the events of 24 November 1940 when Bristol city centre was blitzed and a quarter of its historic buildings were destroyed.
This structured, museum-led learning session at M Shed includes completing activities at tables supported by museum staff and volunteers.
During the workshop you will:
- Learn about the Bristol Blitz
- Understand why the war saw such a great movement of people and how Bristol was involved
- Handle and study real and replica objects, images and documents to reveal stories about Bristol and the Home Front
If you are a parent or guardian that would like to attend this home educator workshop with your child, you are very welcome to join in. If you do not want to participate, you must remain inside the museum, in case of emergency. We will ask for your contact details upon joining the workshop.
We encourage children and adults to come dressed in clothes that match the styles worn in the 1940s:
- Boys/men: a flat cap, shorts or trousers, braces, plain shirt, a wool jumper or waistcoat
- Girls: a simple dress or a blouse and skirt
- Women: a dress or a skirt and blouse with a cardigan and hat
