Black History Month: JOY Trail – a showcase celebrating an educational project of Black joy

Come and join us as we celebrate and showcase the experiences of our city’s young people on the Black JOY Trail!

Black shoeprints sit behind the writing on the top right.JOY Trail is an innovative, educational project created by Tanisha and Emma. They are two local mothers and teachers of primary and secondary aged students, who offer a fresh perspective on cultural heritage through the lens of joy.

Disrupting the dominant single story narratives of trauma and social justice of the Black experience, JOY Trail works alongside young people to develop a wider understanding of “taking up space”. The project expands experiences beyond stereotypes, and empowers young people to view themselves as agents of positive change.

Tanisha and Emma:

“Our young people embarked on a local trail to discover people, places and stories of Black joy within their community and curated a personal joy trail of their city.

JOY Trail stands as a testament to our unwavering dedication to challenge and uplift stakeholders within the realm of education.

We look forward to celebrating our young people and Black joy with you.”
