To support the wellbeing of our staff and to ensure visitor safety, we have taken the decision to close Blaise Museum until the beginning of April 2022, when the new season begins.

We appreciate this decision will be disappointing to those who take great comfort and pride from the city’s museums. We are equally disappointed – for us, preserving the city’s heritage and welcoming visitors is as much a vocation as a job, and a source of great satisfaction.

Our expert gallery staff have experienced high levels of sickness, either by contracting Covid or through self-isolation. Many of our staff are quite young and have only received one dose of the vaccination so far. This means they are still required to self-isolate if they are been in contact with the virus.

In addition, we have seen considerable turnover in our gallery staff. Even as those posts have been filled, there is a continued need for training and support for this skilled and responsible work.

Between now and April 2022, things will not stay still. Work will continue behind closed doors to care for the buildings themselves and the world class collections they contain. In addition, the gallery staff will work with the wider team to deliver an improved public offer from 2022.

We look forward to seeing you in the spring. In the meantime, both Bristol Museum & Art Gallery and M Shed are open as usual. Entry is free but pre-booking is recommended.

FAQs

How do I book a time slot? 

The easiest way to book a visit is online.

There is no booking fee. Entry remains free – although donations are always welcome! 

We release new time slots on a weekly basis. This helps us to manage cancellations and respond to any changes in Government regulations. 

After booking, you will receive an email confirmation that you will need to show us when you arrive. You don’t need to print it – just show it to us on your mobile phone.

In line with government guidance, the personal details you provide upon booking may be used to support the NHS Test and Trace process to control the spread of coronavirus. This data will be held by us for 21 days and then deleted.

What if I have to cancel / alter my booking?

You will find a link within your confirmation email to cancel or amend your booking.

Do I have to wear a face covering?

While Government restrictions may have eased, we’re still asking visitors to wear a face covering. Our staff will be wearing face coverings or standing behind screens to protect you.

You do not need to wear a face covering if you are exempt.

Can I book a group visit or a school visit?

The maximum number of tickets you can book is ten. 

Groups of 10 or more and school visits must be booked in advance. Please get in touch with the team to book

Can I bring my dog inside?

We love dogs! But unfortunately, we can only allow assistance dogs inside Blaise Museum.

Are you accepting cash payments?

Yes but contactless payments are preferred.

Can I just use the toilets / cafe / shop?

Yes but you still need to pre-book a time slot.

Why are some of the windows still boarded up?

Because pipistrelle and serotine bats are roosting here!

Bats are highly protected so we are leaving the boards in place to maintain their chosen habitat. Please do not bang on the shutters or boards as this will scare them. They need a good day’s sleep!
