Winter Lecture: The works of Ray Harryhausen

Join us for the first Winter Lecture of the season to talk about the works of Ray Harryhausen which will be featuring in a major exhibition in 2027.

Most noted for classic films such as The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958), Jason and the Argonauts (1963) and Clash of the Titans (1981), Harryhausen is one of the most important filmmakers of the 20th century. Connor Heaney will take you on a behind the scenes glimpse into Ray’s world-renowned archive, alongside an exclusive preview of plans for a blockbuster exhibition in Bristol.

About Harryhausen

His films adapted mythological stories into 90 minutes of fantasy cinema, astounding audiences with his groundbreaking techniques. His creations- from the Kraken and Kalie to Medusa and the Skeleton Warriors- have become enduring icons of cinema.

The Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation (Charity no SC001419) now care for the vast collection of models, artworks and equipment created and collected by Ray throughout his career.

Connor Heaney is the Foundation’s Collections Manager, and deals with the day-to-day care of Ray’s archive. His responsibilities include the cataloguing, digitisation and conservation of the collection, as well as promoting the awareness of Ray’s work and legacy through worldwide exhibitions and events.
