Under the Hoodie: Analysing Banksy’s Art

Banksy is usually seen through the lens of the ‘whodunnit?’.

Banksy is hailed alternately as a national treasure and urban folk hero; but regarded by some as an imposter who has reneged on ‘his’ graffiti roots – an artist who has forsaken street-cred for credit in the bank.

The diversity of Banksy’s practice, the innovative iconography, the challenging graphic language, and the extraordinary curatorial and filmic skills, make ‘him’ one of the most diverse popular practitioners of our time.

You are invited to hear from the author, artist and writer once once reputed on Tik Tok to be Banksy, Paul Gough.

With wit, candour, and respect, Paul will analyse Banksy’s value as artist, graphic designer, curator and film maker.

Paul Gough’s book, Banksy: Cultural Outlaw, which is published by Sansom & Company, will also be available if you buy a £20 ticket.

A regular media commentator on Banksy’s work, Paul Gough’s new book puts all the fuss about anonymity, commercial success, and global popularity in perspective.

Opening with an illustrated talk by the author, this event features a conversation between Gough and Philip Walker, Head of Culture and Creative Industries, who helped Banksy and his team devise the infamous exhibition – Banksy versus Bristol Museum – in 2009.
