Film screening: Bristol – 100 years in Music and Film by David Parker

Join us at M Shed to celebrate the centenary of Bristol Archives through music and film.

On 1 December 2024, Bristol Beacon hosted ‘Bristol – 100 years in music and film’. This event celebrated the centenary of Bristol Archives in style, as 100 talented musicians from the Bristol Youth Orchestra played a live accompaniment to a brand-new assemblage of stunning historical footage of Bristol across the decades.

Filmmakers David Parker and Bob Pitt worked with Bristol Archives to select around 100 minutes of film from the collection stored at B Bond warehouse, which was the UK’s first civic archive upon its opening in 1924. Much of the footage had never been screened before. Musical highlights included pieces by Holst, Vaughan Williams, and Florence Price, plus a new composition by pianist Sandie Middleton.

M Shed is delighted to be able to present a recording of that captivating event at the Beacon. If you weren’t able to get a ticket the first time around, now’s your chance to relive the excitement!
