Lunar New Year 2025

Welcome the Year of the Snake with us!

Join us for a joyful celebration to usher in Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year or Spring Festival. This exciting weekend is filled with a variety of activities for all ages, including:

  • Vibrant Performances: Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of China and South Asia through captivating dance, music, martial arts and lion dances.
  • Family-Friendly Activities: Get creative with hands-on crafts, learn about Chinese and East Asian heritage, and take a selfie with our roving pandas.
  • Snake Trail Adventure: Embark on a fun-filled snake trail around the museum and learn fascinating facts at our SSuper SSnake stall.

Saturday 8 February

  • 10.15am – Welcome
  • 10.20am – Authentic Chinese Tea Performance, Keemun Black Tea team, direct from Huangshan City, Anhui Province, China
  • 10.30am – Traditional dance, Clevedon School
  • 10.45am – Kung Fu demonstration, Bristol Shaolin Wushu Academy
  • 11.15am – Traditional Lion dance – HM Lord Lieutenant awakens the new lion! University of Bristol Lion Dance Troupe
  • 12pm – Classical music on the Erhu and Guzheng, Ronni Ho (Erhu) and Iona Wang (Guzheng)
  • 12.15pm – Dance with our pandas!
  • 12.30pm – Interval
  • 1.30pm – Children’s performance, Avon Chinese School
  • 2pm – Kung Fu demonstration, Bristol Shaolin Wushu Academy
  • 2.30pm – Traditional song and dance, South Gloucestershire Chinese Association
  • 3pm – Traditional Lion Dance, University of Bristol Lion Dance Troupe
  • 3.30pm – Traditional song and dance, South Gloucestershire Chinese Association
