Join us for our Home Educator workshop about rocks and fossils. Can you spot a metamorphic from a sedimentary rock? Young geologists can investigate rocks and fossils in this hands-on workshop. Take part in fun geology activities to discover more about the rock cycle, volcanoes and plate tectonics.
Children will:
Discover how rocks are made from minerals
Handle and investigate rocks, minerals and fossils
Learn about and identify features of 3 different types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic
Discover how rocks are changed during the rock cycle, including by volcanoes and plate tectonics
Learn scientific terms weathering, erosion, composition, compression, intrusive and extrusive
Take home experiments investigating soils
Explore the geology gallery using a museum self-guided activity

Eating and drinking is not permitted in the workshop. Crumbs attract pests and our collections are far too precious to be attacked!
