This exciting family day is filled with a variety of activities for all ages!

Volcanoes are an incredible force of nature. They can be spectacular to look at and they can be incredibly destructive. They also affect many lives around the world today. Join us to discover the incredible power of volcanoes, how experts study them and how volcanoes affect the communities around them.  

The Imaginarium

The floor is magma! A light up floor can simulate the effects of a volcanic eruption beneath your feet. Can you put your volcano knowledge to the test and beat the heat during one of our volcanic eruptions?  

Meet the Experts

How do you become a volcanologist? Come and meet experts from The University of Bristol to find out. The Centre for Observation and Modelling of Earthquakes Volcanoes and Tectonics will also talk about their work. 

Family Friendly Activities

Get creative with hands-on activities including discovering the science of volcanoes, come up close and handle incredible volcanic rocks and minerals, volcano stories and dress-up as a volcanologist.

Learn all about our own extinct volcanoes that once erupted in the landscape around Bristol millions of years ago. 

Geology Store Adventures

Join us for a short trip behind the scenes to the geology store, with a volcanic theme. Please note there is no step free access, an alternative adventure can be arranged. Recommended age 7+. Sign up on the day.
