Help your students develop their language skills as they learn about Bristol and engage with the city’s culture. Our specially adapted M Shed tours for learners of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) will give your students an inspiring introduction to the city.
The tours take place in M Shed’s galleries providing a simple overview of Bristol’s fascinating history. Topics covered include the Transatlantic traffic in enslaved Africans and city protests like the Bristol Bus Boycott and the 1831 Bristol Riot in Queen Square. The tours are designed to improve your students’ vocabulary, grammar and listening skills.
- Suitable for: Teenage (14 years +) and adult EFL classes
- Duration: 45 minutes
- Group size: Minimum of 12 students; up to 20 learners
All tours are led by a trained museum professional and are graded appropriately for EFL beginners, intermediates and advanced learners. On booking, you’ll be sent a teacher’s Resource Pack that provides both pre-visit and post-visit graded activities.

Each group must be accompanied by at least one teacher/ language school staff member. Required ratio: one adult for every ten pupils.
You are welcome to take photographs. We’d love you to share pictures of your school trip with us on social media.
Eating and drinking is not permitted in the museum. Crumbs attract pests and our collections are far too precious to be attacked!
ESOL and other EFL tours
Bristol Museums also offer English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) tours of both M Shed and Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. Our ESOL tours are open to long-term residents of Bristol over the age of 16. Our EFL tours are open to fee-paying language schools and students of overseas schools.
