Winter Lecture: Modern times in traditional Japan

We are currently displaying our collection of Japanese prints in three consecutive exhibitions:

  • Masters of Japanese Prints: Hokusai and Hiroshige landscapes
  • Masters of Japanese Prints: Life in the city
  • Masters of Japanese Prints: Nature and seasons

Curator, Kate Newnham will speak on how such prints reflect the world of 18th and 19th century Japan.

Speaker: Kate Newnham, senior curator for Visual Arts at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery

This talk was originally being given by Dr Angus Lockyer, Lecturer in the History of Japan at SOAS. We apologise for the change in the programme.

We will not be taking bookings for the Winter Lectures taking place in 2019 and beyond. Entry is on a first come basis so we recommend arriving 15 minutes before the advertised start time to be assured of a seat.

Winter Lectures take place at:
Priory Road Lecture Theatre,
University of Bristol,
8 Woodland Road,

Parking in the area can be difficult so you may want to allow extra time to find a space.
