Winter lecture: From Egypt’s first mummies to the secrets of Horemkenesi

Stephen Buckley and Joann Fletcher have undertaken a wide range of research on mummified remains from Egypt.

From pushing back the beginnings of mummification by almost 2,000 years, they have also studied royal mummies from Nefertiti to Nefertari, mummified a human body donor with Home Office assistance, and continue to undertake research into the life and death of the priest Horemkenesi, whose mummified body was unwrapped in Bristol Museum & Art Gallery in the 1980s.

In this talk they discuss the last 30 years of research.

Speakers: Dr Stephen Buckley and Professor Joann Fletcher (University of York)

All Winter Lectures are free and open to all thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Friends of Bristol Museums, Galleries & Archives.

This is the 70th anniversary year of the Winter Lectures.
