Half-term workshop for young people: Art in a day

Aged 13-19 and enjoy making models and drawing?

You will design your own personal creatures with inspiration from Japanese folklore at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery and then sculpt them into your own character called a Netsuke.

Explore the tales behind mythical Japanese creatures to write a backstory about your own little monster.

How to take part

On the Friday morning the group will log on to Zoom (a video call service) to take a virtual tour of Bristol Museum & Art Gallery’s Netsuke collection and then we will teach you how to create your own. You will have time in between the morning and afternoon session to create your model. We will meet again in the afternoon session to see what everyone has made!

As this is an online course we will give you as much support as we can over Zoom but it’s important that you are happy and able to do some of the work on your own at home.

You will need to be able to access Zoom via a computer/tablet/mobile phone, if needed we will help you get set up with this before the course starts.

We will check what materials you have at home and if there is anything else you need we will arrange to send it out to you so you can take part in the project.

Please book your place below. Details of how to join the workshops will be emailed to you by Suzi Wright, Engagement Officer – Young People. For more information, get in touch with [email protected]. If tickets are booked out, please email Suzi to be added to the waiting list.

We're sorry, but all tickets sales have ended because the event is expired.
