Bristol Art Library
The Bristol Art Library is an art and performance project created in 1998 by the artist Annabel Other.
It consists of handmade books commissioned from artists in a portable library the size of a suitcase, travelled the world over with the Art Librarian, Annabel.
The Bristol Art Library officially opened its doors in New York at Printed Matter, Inc in 1998 (it lent its first book to an air hostess during the flight from London to New York).
Since then, the Bristol Art Library has toured worldwide to over 200 venues and events including Metropolitan Museum of Art, Harvard University, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Glastonbury Festival, WOMAD, Tate St Ives, and toured extensively in the USA, Poland and Japan.
It has a growing membership of over 12,000 and houses in excess of 250 books.
In 2018 it celebrated its 20th birthday with new commissions of 20 books from artists and a tour of venues across the country.
Bristol Museum & Art Gallery is a fitting stop on this birthday tour, in the city where the Library began.
Don’t miss the opportunity to come and meet the Art Librarian and browse her fantastic and unique library!
