Woman’s Hour Craft Prize

This exhibition has finished.

Showcasing the most innovative and exciting craft practice in the UK today, this exhibition from the V&A marks the 70th anniversary of BBC Woman’s Hour.

Traditional materials and historic skills meet new techniques and challenging ideas in a richly varied, stunning and very contemporary show.

The 12 finalists show the broad spectrum of craft practice today, from woven willow and darned jumpers to a bespoke bicycle and an intricate jewellery box.

As well as being beautiful and technically excellent, the show explores the decline of UK manufacturing, advances in medicine and personal stories of loss and memory.

The prize seeks to recognise a craft practitioner or designer-maker who is an outstanding artist and who has significantly contributed to craft practice in the last five years. The finalists were selected over the course of eight selection panels by 29 expert judges and clay artist Phoebe Cummings was named the winner of the £10,000 prize.

Alongside the national touring exhibition, our very own ‘Make Space’ showcases work by Bristol makers and hosts an ever-changing series of mini displays and events throughout the exhibition.

You can meet makers, watch demonstrations, browse and buy locally made work, and have a go at something creative yourself. Find out what’s on in the Make Space.
