Arts Award: Myths & Legends for home educating families

Investigate art inspired by myths & legends, visit our Pre-Raphaelite exhibition, find out about artists and their work, design your own mythical creature, share what you have created and achieve a ‘Discover’ Arts Award.

Children will:

  • Visit our Pre-Raphaelite exhibition
  • Discuss painting composition and techniques
  • Discover the myths & legends behind paintings
  • Compare and contrast art from different time periods
  • Learn specialist art vocabulary
  • Experiment with art materials
  • Design a mythical creature inspired by art in the museum
  • Write a short biography of their mythical creature
  • Share their artwork digitally and with each other
  • Achieve a ‘Discover’ level Arts Award

Suitable for: Ages 8-12
Duration: 4 hours
Group size: Up to 15 children

Session availability: We have one session available from 10.30am-2.30pm

Cost: 15 per child – please book in advance

Arts Council England’s Arts Award scheme

Arts Award Discover is the introductory award open to children and young people aged up to 25.

To achieve Discover arts award, children and young people discover the arts around them, find out about artists and their work and share their experiences with others, gaining a certificate at the end.

This award provides a great introduction to the arts and to other Arts Award levels.
