Bristol Open Doors: Bristol Archives

Join us on Bristol Open Doors Day to find out how we preserve, store and use over 800 years of historic records in the city’s archives.

Watch archive film footage in the B Bond Warehouse – a former tobacco store. Journey back in time to explore an exhibition of Bristol’s history of housing, part of the #HomesforHeroes100 project.

Sign up on arrival for a tour and see Bristol’s earliest records in the archive strong rooms (limited spaces). You’ll see how we care for records spanning ten centuries of Bristol’s history and create public access to them.

Curious about your history? Get free genealogy advice from Bristol & Avon Family History Society.

Please note that the searchroom will not be open for research.

Tours involve walking, standing and using a lift. Due to the nature of our access and evacuation routes, our tours are not wheelchair-accessible

Part of Bristol Open Doors. Bristol Open Doors is a once-a-year chance to look behind closed doors and discover the city’s hidden treasures. Explore fascinating buildings, join guided tours and enjoy a range of events and activities – all free for the day.

Join us at one of our venues for a fantastic celebration of Bristol’s history and culture.
