Bristol’s Great War Women

In this talk, authors Jacqueline Wadsworth and Clive Burlton will cover not only the types of work performed by Bristol women during the First World War but also the shift in the workplace as they took on jobs traditionally performed by men.

They will also explore the growth in voluntary work across the city that saw women taking leading and influential roles in organisations like the Bristol Inquiry Bureau and the Red Cross Society.

These women were the unsung heroes, trying to keep families running whilst husbands, sons and brothers were away fighting the war.

This event is part of the Bristol Women at War exhibition.
