Talks, tours and group visits

We offer group tours and a range of talks. We also welcome schools and other groups who want to use the archives. To book an event or request further information, please contact us.

Tours

We run behind-the-scenes tours of the archive strongrooms for up to eight people.  Join us to find out how we care for Bristol’s historic archive collections and to see some of the city’s most important documents.
Tours cost £60 +VAT and last one hour.

Talks

We can visit groups or societies in the Bristol area to give talks on the following topics:

  • Bristol Archives: documenting the city
  • Bristol Archives film collection
  • Tobacco, wine and chocolate – Bristol’s famous exports
  • British Empire & Commonwealth Collection: photographic archives
  • British Empire & Commonwealth Collection: film archives
    Talks cost £60 + VAT, plus travel expenses, and last one hour.

Group visits

Our Local Studies & Education Room is available for workshops and other group visits:

Workshop or other event facilitated by group visit leader: £60 + VAT (per hour)
This fee covers use of the room and staff supervision of the use of archive documents.
The member of staff will provide a brief introduction to Bristol Archives.
Please book at least one month in advance.

Workshop facilitated by Bristol Archives staff, with use of room and staff supervision of documents: £120 + VAT (per hour).
This fee covers use of the room and staff time spent preparing the session and supervising the use of archive documents.


Please contact us at least six weeks in advance to request a workshop.
We cannot accommodate group work in our searchroom as it is a place for quiet study.

Group research projects

We offer group inductions, to show your members or volunteers how to use our searchroom for research.
Group inductions cost £30 + VAT and last 30 minutes.

School visits

My school: A local history study is a learning package of archives workshops, in-school activities and online resources to help Year 5 and 6 classes discover the history of their local community within the city of Bristol.
