Terrific Takeover Day

Hello, we are here from Victoria Park Primary School to take over Bristol Museum for the day!
It is part of the nationwide Kids in Museums, Takeover Day – a celebration of young people’s contributions to museums, galleries, arts organisations, archives and heritage sites.
We have already been up to lots of things:
We entered the basement and we saw different objects such as spears, a mummified cat, a saddle, an axe, a crown made of feathers, a smoking pipe and decorated belts.
Next we interviewed members of the Bristol Museum staff. We asked them many questions like, “What inspired you to work at the museum?”, “What is your favourite artefact?” and “Who do you like working with the most and why?”.
We then had lunch and had a go at trying out some different jobs you could do in the museum such as: social media (that’s us- Mitchell, Ruby and Taylor) design, conservation, curating and working on the Front Desk.
For the social media role, we had to write three tweets using the museum’s own Twitter account and then write about our day in a blog – this one!
Later on in the day, we will be putting two objects on display in the front hall of the museum. These are the butterfly skeleton human thing and mini totem pole.
We chose these because of how unique and interestingly detailed they are, also eye catching and very colourful. Our job will be to takeover again and interact with the public as they ask questions about the objects.
So far we have liked the fact that we could help in this amazing museum.
Ruby will always remember ‘the big aeroplane’.
Taylor will always remember ‘that the museum has new and interesting new facts’.
Mitchell will always remember ‘the mysterious artifacts that we have learnt about’.
