Bristol Open Doors: Kings Weston Roman Villa

Explore the delights of Bristol’s only surviving ‘home from Rome’, with its mosaic floors, bath suite and underfloor heating system.

The Roman Empire left its mark at Lawrence Weston almost 2,000 years ago when a Roman villa was built there for a wealthy owner.

The site is now a scheduled ancient monument and archaeologists from Bristol Museum & Art Gallery will be on hand to provide a unique glimpse into the past. They will help to interpret the remains of the buildings and explain more about the Romano-British way of life.

Visits to the site are self-guided with information panels throughout. Guidebooks and trails will also be available to purchase on the day.

Part of Bristol Open Doors. Bristol Open Doors is a once-a-year chance to look behind closed doors and discover the city’s hidden treasures. Explore fascinating buildings, join guided tours and enjoy a range of events and activities – all free for the day.
