Make Blaise Museum brilliant!

Over the next few years Blaise Museum will undergo quite a few changes and we’d love for you to help us shape them!
We want to give Blaise Museum a new lease of life and transform it into a museum for the local community. We want it to be full of objects, stories and activities which explore the natural history, geology and archaeology of the surrounding area.
We’re also hoping to tell the story of the building, the family that lived there and restore the beauty of the original architecture.
The first phase of development involves changes to the ground floor including a new shop. Most significantly, from May the Victorian School Room will be replaced with a brand new interactive space where visitors can discover the amazing history of Blaise – from the Ice Age gorge to Georgian merchants, from Iron Age settlers to the myths of Goram the giant.
We think there are some incredible stories to tell but we want you to tell us what you find interesting, what you want to know more about and what would make a brilliant day out for you and your family.
You’ll be able to give us feedback in a variety of creative and hands-on ways and tell us which objects inspire, excite, intrigue or bore you. This is the largest community consultation project we have done and will allow us to truly put our visitor’s needs first.
Your donations
Donations to Bristol Museums Development Trust have supported the changes at Blaise. We have been able to purchase interactives and resources to allow for community consultation as well as movable cupboards so the education team can continue to deliver schools workshops.
Donations have also allowed us to fund the refurbishment of the building with a grant to convert the current Library into a community space.
We have also been able to fund the transformation of the derelict Old Kitchen into a work and research space for staff and volunteers. This has provided a greater capacity for research, collections access and for registering new acquisitions.

Please can you help with sorting out the access from Henbury to Blaise for someone with mobility issues. One of our regular customers uses a mobility scooter and in a conversation I had with her about visiting Blaise she said it was impossible for her because the pavements from Crow Lane all have a high curb so she can’t drive up to the estate. She was also frightened of using the road crossing on her own.
