Discover: The Victorian schoolroom

Discover what it was like to go to school in Victorian times with a lesson in our recreated schoolroom – complete with blackboard and easel, abucus, inkwell and a dunce hat.

Pupils will:

  • Dress in period costume
  • Role play lessons led by a costumed interpreter
  • Learn various lessons appropriate to the period. This may include: Prayers and Bible reading; Handwriting – using a slate; Arithmetic; Reading; Spelling; Drill (PE); Object drawing; Learning by rote.

Don’t forget to stand up straight, be very quiet, work diligently, and keep your boots shiny!

Suitable for: Year 1-6
Duration: 1 hour
Group size: Up to 35 pupils – you can book more than one session

Session availability

These workshops run on Thursdays and Fridays between April – October 2018.  There are two session at 11am-12pm and 12.30pm-1.30pm.  Further sessions may be available. We are able to accommodate a maximum of 2 classes in Blaise Castle House Museum at one time.

Lunch is available only for groups who book workshops. Unfortunately we are unable to provide lunch space for independent visits.
