Alternative Visions: Undiscovered Art in the South West

Frank, emotive and vibrant work by 20 undiscovered artists from across the region.

For these artists, art is a valuable way to express themselves and communicate personal life experiences including health issues, disabilities, difficult social circumstances, or isolation.  

The exhibition also includes audio from Bristol based group Artists First.

The exhibition includes artwork by:
Alex Orrell, Anthony Hill, Arthur Mactaggart, Darryn Michael, Emma Louvelle, Gavin Blench, George G Harding, Jeremy Lovelady, John Taylor, Joshua Howlett, Lisa Fay, Max Frances, Widow Twanky, Lyeekha, Peter Matthews, Peter Sutton, Pinn, Roger Davison, Sam Emm Art and Steve Burden.

Alternative Visions is developed in partnership with Outside In and Arts & Health South West. Funded by Arts Council England Strategic Touring programme.

Please be aware that a few artworks featured contain images that some visitors may find upsetting.

After Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, Alternative Visions will tour to:

  • Falmouth Art Gallery 25 September – 10 December
  • The Wilson, Cheltenham 15 January – 5 February 2018
  • Poole Museum, 26 March – 20 May 2018

Exhibition tours

  • Wednesday 5 July, 5:15pm – 6pm
    A tour of the exhibition with exhibiting artist George J. Harding.
  • Thursday 3 August, 5.15pm – 6pm
    Audio described tour for blind and visually impaired visitors. Book in advance by calling us on 0117 922 3571.       
  • Saturday 2 September, 2pm – 2.45pm
    A tour of the exhibition with Artists First. BSL interpreted.
