The Nightingale and the Rose (named after Oscar Wilde’s short story of the same name) is the first event of this kind for us. Using a ‘natural world’ theme it will be an evening of immersive entertainment: the magnificent halls of Bristol Museum & Art Gallery will be transformed with performances including ballet, aerial hoop, physical theatre movement and acrobatics.

60 lucky guests will also be able to take part in late night tours to see our underground natural history stores, which hold an astounding 650,000 collections including taxidermy, pinned insects and pickled animals. But you’ll have to buy your tickets quick – the store tours are already nearly all booked up.

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition will also be open late for guests who afterwards can enjoy a cocktail or two and dance away into the night.

Last month we held a photo shoot in the museum as part of the campaign for the event. We were really excited to be able to work with designer Mishi May and photographers Oxana Mazur and Lovegrove who utilised both the stunning architecture of the museum and the hidden wonders of the natural history stores. We think the photos show the opulence of the event with its natural world twist!

Our next task will be to finalise all the performers, many of which are undertaking workshops with a theatre director to devise a movement score inspired by the Oscar Wilde poem. We’re also working with a lighting designer to make sure we create a special atmosphere for this unique evening.

For those of you looking for the perfect, unique Christmas gift for someone special – voilà!
